People who suffer from porphyria symptoms terrifying: their gums recede to give the appearance of fangs, their skin burns when exposed to the sun, forming bubbles, and must be treated with injections of blood. If this sounds familiar, you probably think that this disease has contrubuito to create the legend of vampires. The porphyria is caused when the heme part of hemoglobin, is not produced properly. As to why no one knows. Scientists say that this could be due to a mutation in the DNA, but that does not explain why alcohol, drugs, infections, and even some estrogen can trigger attacks of certain types of porphyria...*
