The Broad Art Museum by Diller Scofidio + Renfro Finally Opens in Downtown LA...*

 

The Broad is a new contemporary art museum in Downtown LA built by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the much-anticipated museum will be home to the nearly 2,000 works of art from the Broad collection. With its unique honeycomb exterior in many ways constructed as a direct response to the neighboring Frank Gehry Disney Concert Hall, which opened over a decade ago, the unusual “veil and vault” concept consists of fiberglass-reinforced concrete panels wrapped around the spectacular vault interior...*

 

The ground-level lobby is a cave-like space with curving walls sheathed in Venetian plaster, while the three-storey gallery space will offer free general admission and will also feature the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library...*
